Taylor Holdaway Riding High After Top Five Finish At Sauble Speedway

Thursday - July - 2014

Orillia, ON – The 2014 racing season in Ontario is at the midway point and for Late Model driver Taylor Holdaway things are heating up. With a full schedule set for Sunset Speedway and limited appearances at Barrie on off-weeks, the Orillia, Ont. native has been busy week in and week out. On Saturday, July 12th he had one of his best outings of the season as the first round of the Home and Home series took place at Sauble Speedway near Owen Sound.

“We had a great week testing at Sunset and Barrie leading up to Round 1 of the Home and Home series” said Holdaway. “Our car has been close the past couple weeks, but not quite where we wanted it and with the test sessions we were able to fine tune the set up. We were very pleased with the car heading into the road trip.”

The series is a two race showdown for points and prestige. For Holdaway the goals were set conservatively until the team realized how quick the car was. “We went to Sauble with the intentions of just running what we had and seeing where we measured up. Sauble is known to be a ‘built’ motor track so we weren’t sure how our crate motor would stack up.” he said. “Considering we were on old tires, we were had a fast car right off the trailer. We were happy with the set up we had chosen.”

A strong qualifying run and a little luck in the redraw gave Holdaway confidence that the team could be in for a good night. “Our goal was to finish in the top 5 of the Sunset cars so we could earn at least 1 bonus point. After the redraw put us on pole though, I knew we should be in for a decent run even with many of the top runners bolting four brand new tires on.” Holdaway commented. “We faded at the start, but  knew that would happen with the tires we had on the car.”

When all was said and done Holdaway ended the feature in the 5th position. Due to a disqualification to another competitor in post race technical inspection the team would bump up one sport and finish 4th in the final rundown. The finish also made Holdaway the top finishing Sunset car.

Taylor and the #41 team return to action on Saturday, July 19th for the sixth round of the Sunset Speedway Super Series. The follow week will be the back half of the Home and Home series at Sunset.
